Top sites disappeared after returning to the new tab page

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Set Yandex search engine as default
2. Open a new tab
3. Click on the one of top sites
4. Click ton the button "back"

What is the expected behavior?
The new tab page after returning contains top sites

What went wrong?
Top sites disappeared

Did this work before? N/A 

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.8  Channel: dev
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
