What is the expected result?

Checkbox should be marked as checked.


What happens instead?

Checkbox isn't marked as checked.

I know it's hacky to customize checkboxes but the point remains that this works on Chrome 51 and doesn't work on 53.  The checkbox "underneath" still works but visually, no check mark is displayed.
