Google Translate: Speaker icon does not appear upon typing text

Reported by daniellindsley.123@gmail.com, Jul 10 2016

Issue description

Chromium Version : 51.0.2683.0
URLs (if applicable) : https://translate.google.com/
Other browsers tested: Yes.
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
    Firefox: PASS (47.0.1)
         IE: PASS (11.420.10586.0)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open the page.
(2) Type in some text.

What is the expected result?

Speaker icon appears upon having typed up some text allowing you to click on it and listen to the voice.

What happens instead?

Speaker icon does not appear, thus, you cannot click on it and hear the voice.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

I had someone else confirm this icon also appears on Chrome, so with these three browsers out of the way, I can safely say it's probably something specific with Chromium. If you were going to ask, sorry, but no I cannot test Chrome since I accidentally firewalled it through McAfee. Anyways, below are screenshots of the page on Chromium, Firefox, and IE.

I think you've got the wrong browser. This is related to Chromium, not Chrome (unless you do have the right one; it just says "Chrome" instead for some reason).

Anyways, here's a screencast of the issue. I don't know how, but somehow I have a 32-bit Developer Build of it so maybe that's the issue. Maybe I need to be using a different build?

Have you looked at https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys

There isn't really much different between chrome and chromium. But chromium doesn't have google api keys.
I'm still unsure how I ended up with a developer build. I'm not even sure if it's right or not.

Is Chromium not having API keys for Google the reason that speaker icon doesn't appear? That'd be my best bet in this case.

This is not a product issue, but rather a site issue. I filed the bug with the Google Translate team.
Feedback from the internal team is that if you click the language first; then you can get the listen icon. I have tried this in chromium and it works.

The auto-detect functionality doesn't work in chromium due to API keys.

Chromium builds are considered a developer builds; ie not official Google builds. The binary you have was built by someone else.

Get the Google official release builds here: https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel
