Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8566.0.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2791.0 Safari/537.36 Platform: 8566.0.0 (Official Build) canary-channel kip Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Follow http://strawn-04.blogspot.com/2013/12/chromebook-howto-update-to-hidden.html instructions if you haven't already 2. Update to build mentioned in this bug report What is the expected behavior? Status area should look the same as before What went wrong? Ugly pink pixels cover the battery icon ― this, of course, is with --ash-md enabled. Did this work before? Yes Before I was prompted to "Restart to update" today. Chrome version: 54.0.2791.0 Channel: canary OS Version: 8566.0.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

Thanks for the report. I also see this in canary and it is almost certainly due to my recent changes to this icon for MD. I'll take a closer look.

Confirmed that this is due to https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/7da397af40d827b9d8252001c3c944ed09f4e9ea

However I should note that the icon looks fine with use_ash=true on a Linux build and on link dev-channel. I can see the bug on glimmer (however for me it happens to look like it has a blue background, not pink).

The following revision refers to this bug: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/ebaed71d0edd7e63a6197af483c5852eb1c436ca commit ebaed71d0edd7e63a6197af483c5852eb1c436ca Author: tdanderson <tdanderson@chromium.org> Date: Thu Jul 21 17:52:09 2016 Change initialization of canvas used for Ash material design battery For the Ash material design battery icon seen in the system tray, change the |is_opaque| argument to false when initializing its canvas. This will force a clear and prevents unwanted artifacts from appearing over top of / underneath the icon.
