The C++ logic for communicating progress percentage to the UI has been migrated, see https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/chrome/browser/ui/webui/settings/about_handler.cc?l=581,597. So the only thing missing is the UI surface to display it.

@tbuckley: Where should the indicator be displayed in the new UI? In the old Options it was under the spinner (see attachement).

Either next to the spinning indicator or perhaps inside the spinning
indicator.

How about just in parentheses next to "Updating your device"? Eg. "Updating your device (25%)"

if we have good product/UX requirements around this, I'll implement the suggestion in comment 4
Note that the new UI also fails to display the platform version, which is sometimes the only part that an update changes. Old UI shows it, new UI does not (and only shows the browser version, which is not the whole story)

bsittler@: what do you mean by platform version? can you upload a screenshot or two showing what you mean?

fyi: I'm also adding the progress percentage to the message that shows up when you switch channels (i.e. Updating your device to stable (90%))
Screenshot attached, platform version is selected/highlighted. Likewise the ARC version and firmware version can change without impacting browser version. Please consider showing all the versions, just as the existing UI does.

Also, what is "Detailed build information" supposed to do? Right now it seems to be completely ignored.

i'm not really sure what "Platform ##.#.#.#" means on the about page here. seems ChromeOS-y.
Labels: OS-Chrome
Yes, it's the OS version for ChromeOS. Sometimes the update applied through this UI changes the OS version but not the browser version.

Likewise ARC is the Android container version for ChromeOS, and Firmware is the device firmware version for ChromeOS.

@dbeam, do you know if the progress indicator has been finished?

We now have all of the Chrome OS-specific platform details discussed in this thread, so the update % is the only piece remaining.

bsittler@: this bug was about progress status % while updating. please file a new bug for any other cros-specific issues on the about page
dbeam@ - all the info seems to be there now, so no bugs to file :)

Status: Verified (was: Fixed)
Verified on ChromeOS 9086.0.0, 57.0.2951.0. Progress of download is shown "Updating your device (x%)"
