checkbox still missing to enable/disable spellcheck under settings/language input

Reported by etbrow...@gmail.com, Jul 7 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : 51.0.2704.103
OS Version: 8172.60.0

Chrome help notes show that this problem has existed in various versions of chrome since 2012.

Yet in ver 51 it's back again.

I have also gone to 'privacy' and checked the option to get spellcheck help from web browsers, yet nothing.

I get the red line under a mispelled word, but no spellcheck with left or right clicks or double taps.

What is the fix?

I'm sorry, but your bug description is not clear. Can you please clarify what you observe and what you expect instead?

The attached screenshot has the checkbox for "Use this language for spellchecking," so the bug title seems wrong.

"No spellcheck with left or right clicks or double taps" --- Does this mean that right-click menu does not show spellcheck suggestions or settings?

This means that spell check is off by default in my chrome book.

This means no misspelled words have the the red underlining.

It means there is no checkbox to check or uncheck.

I request you escalate this case as it is well known and well documented going back to 2012.

ChromeOS indeed does not show "Enable spell checking" checkbox in settings at chrome://settings/languages. However, you have workaround: right-click on any text area and select the "Check spelling of text fields" item in the "Spellcheck" submenu. See the first screenshot below. Does that work?

No. An emphatic no!

Google is the greatest technology company in the world.

This has been a known problem on many chromebooks for 3 or 4 years.

Every email sender wants to see the red underlining appear under misspelled words before sending.

If we can send men to the moon, it's hard to understand why Google can't correct an obvious error in 4 years!

i'm not really sure what this bug is about, but

a) like rouslan@ mentioned, there's pretty easy hooks into spellchecking most inputs or text areas

b) i'm attaching a screenshot of what this looks like in the new settings UI (another place to change it)
