Looks like this was fixed in 53.0.2785.1

Correction, 53.0.2785.1 still shows this issue.

For me:
1. Start Chrome Canary using the Most used list in Windows 10.
2. Canary starts full screen as a blank screen, Lower left status does work and if you look at what windows are open using the taskbar, it does show the name of the website it loaded.
3. if I right click on the Chrome Canary icon on the taskbar, I can click "New Window" Which starts a normal sized window that i can maximize and works as normal.

I am using 53.0.2785.1 and hit the same issue after upgrade from last build.
rom's workaround worked for me but required some modification in steps:
1. after hitting the issue, restore the windows size.
2. Re-size the window to a smaller one.
3. right click on Chrome Canary icon on taskbar and start a new window.

Thanks for taking the time to file a bug! This sounds like a temporary regression in the latest Canary. Please report an issue through the Chrome menu ("Help > Report an issue") if it continues in the next update. Thanks!
