Navigator get current position issue with timeout always throws error

Reported by ejgonzal...@gmail.com, Jul 1 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : 53.0.2774.3
OS Version: Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
   Firefox 47.0 FAIL

There seems to be an issue with getting the current position in chromium in which it throws a timeout error, always, even if it succeeds.

Reproducing this issue seems very hard for me, in my app I was getting an error message twice sometimes (visually) which was a problem that hinted me, I tried to reproduce it with success only sometimes, it seems that only at first try it happened. However there's a way to reproduce the issue that works almost inmediatly.

Copy the following code inside the console*.

https://jsfiddle.net/u7haL809/

In firefox 47.0 though, you can just hit run and it will also reproduce the problem.

The problems seems to arise only when it "asks" for permission.

UserAgentString: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/53.0.2774.3 Chrome/53.0.2774.3 Safari/537.36

Somehow unable to reproduce this on the latest Dev(53.0.2783.2) on Linux Ubuntu 14.04.

Navigating to the above jsfiddle and allowing the location pop-up to access the location shows the location in the console.

ejgonzalezviera@: Could you please check this on the latest Dev and confirm if the issue still persists. Please let us know if anything missed in the repro steps or consistent reproducible steps to triage this further.

I cannot reproduce it again in jsfiddle, for some reason I seem to be unable to make it ask again for permission, as it only happens when it asks me for permission.

If I remove the timeout it works just fine.

Pasting in console, however, makes it reproduce....

Sorry I found what the issue was with the permissions, I was removing jsfiddle, and it was a subdomain from jsfiddle the one that executed the location query.

Once I removed the permission and it asked again for permission, in fact, it happened...

I have Chromium 53.0.2783.2 Ubuntu 14.04 in fact...

32 bits version btw...

I'm not sure if it has to be something with that due to the fact that it also happens in firefox; even with suscesful response.

Well I tried in opera 38.0.2220.41, works perfectly there... both in error and in success; the behaviour results as expected.

Somehow still not reproducible for me on Linux Ubuntu 14.04 with the latest Dev(53.0.2785.8). Pasting the code into the console and accepting location bubble shows the location.

Could you try by clearing any exceptions here: chrome://settings/contentExceptions#location
Could it be a 32 bits issue?... I haven't tried in 64 bits because currently this is the only machine I can access.

If you remove the timeout it works just fine, maybe it's counting non-properly; hence my guess that it could be 32 bits issue.

What seems strange is that also happens in FF as well, but not in opera.

Could you please provide a link where you got the 32 bit Chrome build from?
I got a new computer, ubuntu 16.04 this time is 64 bits; I still get the same issue. Chromium 53.0.2785.8 Ubuntu 16.04

https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+archive/ubuntu/chromium-dev

Not reproducible on Google Chrome 52.0.2743.82 works as well as in opera.
Cannot reproduce anymore in Mozilla Firefox 47.0

I'm unable to reproduce this in both the jsfiddle and also copying the code directly into the console in Chrome 58.0.3029.12.
