Chrome pdf plugin shows different title for PDF document from Google Drive. |
||||
Issue descriptionVersion of Google Chrome (Wrench-> About Google Chrome):50.0.2661.102 m Base OS: Window8.1 and Windows 10 [Issue description] When the users open PDF file stored in Google Drive, Drive's viewer shows "file name" in browser's tab and viewer's title section. However when the users actually download the PDF file to the local drive and open it with Chrome browser, Chrome browser shows "title" field of the document's property instead of the "file name". [Use case] The customer wants the behavior of Chrome browser viewer to align with the behavior of Google Drive's viewer otherwise the users always have to go to properties and change title. [Motivation] The customer mentioned that if both of the viewers are made by Google and if both of them works on Chrome browser, the behaviors should be the same. Moreover, the procedure of the workaround depends on the version of Microsoft Office and they always change the UI and it is hard for users to adapt. [How to create a PDF file which has this issue?] 1. Save as PDF format using Microsoft Word 2007 [Existing workarounds] Go to file > Information > properties to change title. This procedure depends on the version of Microsoft Office and they always change the UI and it is hard for users to adapt.

Do you have a test document that you can share to demonstrate this issue?

I have bunch of PDF files and half of them (include official documentation from top vendors) have no titles in them. All those files are stored on Google Drive. When people use those files from Google Drive Web interface they have fun. When people use those files from Files application on their Chromebook they are misleading by PDF Viewer titles. You may see that overall process on Chromebook look like this: 1) You click on a PDF file in the File application. 2) PDF Viewer is loading in a new tab and show the real file name. 3) A moment after real file name is changed to something like title from PDF properties. You may see all reproduction steps on a video here: https://youtu.be/8Ptv5gAq5rU

thestig: I recorded a video (https://youtu.be/8Ptv5gAq5rU) which is fully explain the issue as well as reproduction steps. In the video I showed behaviors that happen while I open the same PDF files from Google Drive in Google Chrome and Chrome OS Files app. Do you see how titles of PDF documents are changing while PDF is opening by Chrome OS Files app? This is a proof which confirm that the issue is real.
