Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.106 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Download a file 2. Notice status bar does not indicate how much is left What is the expected behavior? It should show what's left. Without this, one does not know even how big file is. What went wrong? This used to be present in previous versions. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 51.0.2704.106 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.3 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

Doesn't appear to be the case. The total size and the time remaining still appears if the response size is available. However if the server response doesn't indicate the response size (e.g. "Connection: close" with no "Content-Length"), then the above happens where Chrome only shows the progress so far.

This appears to be correct. I just tried it with an MP3 and it showed. However, this was this first time I've ever noticed it not do this. Is this something Chrome can fix?

One solution that I think we'll go with is to say "2.8 MB so far" when the size isn't known. That at least conveys that the UI isn't broken and that the size represents what has been written to disk instead of the size expected when the download is complete. Other than that, there isn't much that Chrome can do if the size of a download is not known. Such downloads are increasingly rare. |
