"Open link as" option doesn't appear on link context menus |
||||
Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2783.2 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Set up two profiles. 2. Right-click on a link What is the expected behavior? Context menu has an item, "Open link as <my other profile> What went wrong? Context menu has no option to open the link as my other profile. Did this work before? Yes A few days ago. Chrome version: 53.0.2783.2 Channel: dev OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0 I gather from crbug.com/623592 that this change is intentional, but since I can't see crbug.com/103073 I don't know what the motivation is. Note that I never have a window open in my second profile. I thought the "open link as" feature was delightful, but now I'll have to manually open a new window every time I want to use it. This isn't impossible, but it's silly. Also the only way I discovered this workaround was by reading the Chromium bug database, so for most users with my use case, the feature will just be dead to them. Finally, this change means that if I were a new user coming to Chrome I would never discover the feature in the first place.

thanks for the report.. adding jochen @, worked on https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=623592 considering this as Feature request, marking as Untriaged and requesting jochen@ to check and update. note: as mentioned in the bug report on Win7, Chrome # 53.0.2783.2 able to see "Context menu has an item, "Open link as <my other profile>" (if two profiles are open)

Yah :/ Here's the original pitch deck (google-internal): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1PiicTvVbQVYRln6YSqbdOjo7FP0EcTMxn6VYO3tLNAI/edit#slide=id.p And some discussion about the revised triggering (google-internal): https://groups.google.com/a/google.com/d/msg/chrome-ui-review/-oXDFvzS2-I/yr7r-K-hAgAJ The summary is that this was an experimental feature for power users and so we set a CTR benchmark in advance (open-in-incognito). With the original triggering, we don't make it to that usefulness bar - with the revised triggering we do. The alternative was to remove it all together :/
