Touch on option inside select trigger click on top left of the page

Reported by e.oliv...@hairnet.fr, Jun 28 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : 51.0.2704.84 and 53.0.2777.0 (canary
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested:
     Safari: OK
    Firefox: OK
         IE: OK

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Have a select (or multiple select) anywhere on the webpage
(2) Touch (windows 7 touch input) a select to open it
(3) Select an OPTION with a "long touch" (not really that long, more than just a fast touch)
(4) A click on the top left of the page is triggered (on our application there is the home button, so user go back to index...)

What is the expected result?
Only the touch on the option should be triggered

What happens instead?
A click on the left of the page is triggered

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible:

When selecting an item in a drop down list through touch, this somehow fires off an event that has no association or trigger to the current element.

When using the mouse to select the item, this does not fire off the event. This also only happens in chrome all other browser (IE 10, EDGE, Firefox, Safari) works as the same as the mouse event

It doesn't happen with "fast touch" but only if you let your finger a little on the screen (nothing significant, just not a light speed touch), also if you keep the touch pressed the trigger doesn't happen and you can see the "hover/active" on the button you are targeting.

As you can see on the schema attached, the trigger targets(buttons) are on the left side of the page, any select (no mater the position) will trigger only element on the left of the page, also the position of the option inside the select change the top position of the trigger.

We've tryed playing the touch params on the chrome flags and touch settings in windows but nothing successfull

We are a software company with web app runing on windows 7 and last version of chrome and this problem was reported by some of our clients (more than 20 atm) since june 20th, it's kind of a big problem for us :(.

e.oliveau@ : Thanks for the report.A sample jsfidle/url would help further investigating the issue.
We are seeing this EXACT same issue.

You can use this site as an example:
http://nextgen-styleguide.elasticbeanstalk.com/choice-inline.php?hidemeta

Open the select and long press on one of the last 2 options. Notice that the link will be selected.

I'll attach a video soon too.

Hello, we have the same issue with our app. It's a critical bug. Our HMI is broken. Have you got any suggestion to solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here facing the issue. C'mon Google you can do it :D
This would be 'nonessential' if we had an alternate solution to tell our clients, better than 'use your mouse fronm now on' !

Unable to reproduce the issue using the above url provided on Comment # 2 on Win 10 Touch machine.
Could you please provide the exact url and screen cast depicting the issue to help further triage it.
james.setaro@ I cannot reproduce this either. You indicated that you were going to upload a video reproducing it.

I've tried 51.0.2704.103, 51.0.2704.106, 54.0.2793.0 all on a Windows 10 Surface.

others@ is there another reproduction URI that indicates this?
I was able to reproduce readily on chrome touch OS 51.0.2704.103

Did you try it on win 7 as noted in the original post?

Issue 624352 has been merged into this issue.
james.setaro@ : Thanks for the update, it seems the the issue reported originally(comment #0) speaks different to the above screen cast loaded in Comment # 15.

Could you please review the screen cast of Win 10 Touch(Dell Precision M3800)and update further.

This is the same issue as initially stated, what you will find is that on highlighting an option, it will also highlight an element on a page for example the drop down menu item in item samples.

I am guessing that the menu item has a link applied, thus when release the finger the both the drop down list and the menu item (that was highlighted) will activate the event associated to those elements

Navid are you able to look into this? It seems related to how the gesture long press is dispatched perhaps it is interacting with the popup frame weirdly?

I'll take a look.

Removing the Needs-Bisect and Test-NeedsConfirmation for now, please add the same if there a proper repro steps to triage further from TE end.
durga.behera@chromium.org@ its the same issue as reported. Can you try it on another device? Do you need anything more from me to reproduce?
Hello,
Can we have an update of the status of this issue ?
We have clients threatening to quit using our product because of that.
What alternative solution do you advice ?
Thank you in advance.

Whats the latest on this issue? Its still affecting touch users.
I just tested this with Chrome 54.0.2840.99 on Window 10 pro tablet (couldn't find a windows 7 touch device around). I did the exact thing as comment#15. But I didn't see what it was shown in that video. james.setaro@ can you do a quick retry and see if it is something that is resolved in the newer version or you still see the problem?
