Issue description
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS armv7l 8172.60.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.103 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open the console on an page that does not use the Filesystem api
2. Run this code:
webkitStorageInfo.requestQuota(PERSISTENT, 1, function() {
webkitStorageInfo.requestQuota(PERSISTENT, 2)
})
3. Approve the popup once
What is the expected behavior?
All future requests for quota are automatically granted or the popup displays the amount of storage.
What went wrong?
The popup does not display the storage amount or occurs on every quota increase request with the same prompt.
Did this work before? N/A

+dgrogan: do you know about this prompt? I didn't even know it existed.

jsbell will know the plan for PERSISTENT storage and this prompt.

jsbell: Is this API shipped to stable? How can it be triggered? I've never seen a prompt like this in the wild.

This api works with the sandboxed filesystem api shipped to stable in Chrome 14.
,
Sep 26 2016
Are there any example websites that use the API?
,
Sep 26 2016
Not many because the api is not supported by other browsers. https://html5-demos.appspot.com/static/filesystem/filer.js/demos/index.html

Thanks - that's good to know.

Confirmed on canary (55.0.2872.0) in OSX. Given that the sandboxed filesystem API is in maintenance mode, I think this is somewhere between a P3 and a WontFix.

A more subtle fix would be to grant the quota for a higher value than actually requested, so that the prompt is only seen again for significant increases. But since we're deprecating the whole PERSISTENT quota mechanism that's moot. Leaving this open until we get a comprehensive plan together for dealing with the sandboxed filesystem API.

I'm going to mark this as Archived because it's a real issue but I don't think the priority is high enough to address. What we would do instead would be to remove the prompt altogether. |
