Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2774.3 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. open chrome://history or press Ctrl-H 2. click the blue search bar on the top What is the expected behavior? The input field immediately receives focus and letters appear when I start typing exactly in the place I clicked - at the start of the field when it's empty, for example. What went wrong? Powerpointish animation distracts from the function, takes away a user's time, shifts/steals the attention point from the initial place where the input field was located. A desktop PC isn't a phone, whoever did it doesn't understand that material design shouldn't be the focal point by itself, instead it should be simple and unobtrusive, helping the user experience. Animation shouldn't be used blindly (because "yes we can") when it doesn't help the main function in any way like in this case. Did this work before? Yes before MD was enabled for chrome://history Chrome version: 53.0.2774.3 Channel: dev OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

Ah, and dear developers, don't forget the appeal of Chrome was and is its utter UI simplicity, even primitivity, which is slowly getting destroyed by overzealous applying of UX-hindering embellishments.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. We're tweaking the behavior of the search field to reduce this animation.

As of R405681 (currently in Canary channel), the toolbar will no longer expand on click. I'm marking this bug as fixed, feel free to reopen or file a new bug if you have further feedback |
