Issue descriptionUserAgent: http://www.netflix.com/ Example URL: Netflix.com Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Try playing Netflix on Mint Linux Chrome 2. 3. What is the expected behavior? Silverlight needed flashs on screen from Netflix What went wrong? Netflix asks for silverlight. Phoned Netflix people and they said too bad. MS windows or Apple OS needed to load silverlight.I made it clear they were losing me as customer because of silverlight and they asked when I wanted to cancel netflix, end of story Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: <Copy from: 'about:version'> Channel: n/a OS Version: Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 11.2 r999 I though HTML 5 was going to correct this problem

Tentatively labeling EME, since I expect David will know the answer to this.

Are you using Google Chrome from https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/ or something that came with Linux Mint? Go to http://shaka-player-demo.appspot.com/demo/ and attempt to select "Tears of Steel (Widevine)" from the drop down. Is it grayed out? If not, select it and click Load. Does it play?

Google dropped the ball with http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/google-chrome-glitch-lets-users-illegally-download-movies-netflix-amazon-prime-1567769 It involves a fundamental part of the Chrome build and will take time to re-program out the vulnerability. Netflix found out and stopped Chrome with the Silver light requirement. The chrome on Mint linux OS will not load MS Silverlight as the remedy for this problem.

Hi Yes I'm using Google Chrome from https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/ or something that came with Linux Mint I tried loading and operating Netflix in the Chrome and Chromium Browzer to no avail. Netflix asks for Sillverlight each and everytime. It always was through the Chrome broozer that I was able to watch Netflix Thanks Barry

> Yes I'm using Google Chrome from > https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/ or something that came with > Linux Mint Which one matters since Widevine is only supported in Google Chrome (from the download page) and we don't know what might be different in other builds. I suggest removing Chrome and (re)installing Google Chrome from the download page.

No but Chrome just updated to 52 (http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.ca/) and also Google just acquired a security company that do streaming. Also they are making big changes with Flash which is the Netflix Streaming Vehicle. http://www.smh.com.au/technology/consumer-security/computer-security-flash-down-the-pan-20160711-gq3n9k Also this update: https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/07/google-acquires-anvato-a-media-streaming-and-monetization-platform-for-broadcasters/ Netflix informed me that Linux isn't even on their radar and no updates or problems with their services with Microsoft and Apple. I will be start up Netflix by the end of the month on Chrome Linux and hopefully by then the security issues would have been abated. Thanks Barry

it seems there isn't much we can do now. I'll resolve this bug as won't fix. |
