I tested on Windows and was unable to reproduce the problem. I'm working on a Mac with the following specs:

OS X: Yosemite (10.10.5)
Chrome: Version 51.0.2704.103 (64-bit)

Here's something odd I found. If I type in "cnn.com" in the address bar, the onbeforeunload event is not detected. If I type "www.cnn.com" the event is always triggered.

Thank you for the help.

No luck, Followed the same steps still unable to reproduce the issue on Mac OS 10.11.5 as well using chrome latest stable 51.0.2704.106. Could you please upgrade your browser to chrome latest stable and recheck for it. In case if issue is still seen please check the same on chrome latest canary as well and let us know the issue still persists or not.
