Bad font rendering during pinch zoom on Asus Chromebook Flip |
|||||
Issue descriptionI bought an Asus Chromebook Flip (minnie) a couple of weeks back and installed M50 (stable at that time) on it. I noticed really bad font rendering (spacing and positioning of glyphs was really bad) during pinch zoom especially on Google News (but also on other sites). I wasn't able to reproduce this on a Pixel 2 (samus). Unfortunately I had to return the minnie so I don't have screenshots to show.

During pinch zoom, glyphs would change position/spacing depending on zoom level. At some zoom levels it would look OK (not great) but at others it would look bad (e.g. no space between some glyphs, lots of space between other glyphs). At the default zoom level (unzoomed) glyphs were rendered fine.

Is this a textblobs thing, different hinting at different raster scales?

Have you got any other machine you can reproduce this on? Hard to fix when we can't see the problem. :/ (+Ben)

Notably, it'd be a chromebook without highdpi. Not sure what else sets it apart from a pixel2.

I'll try to reproduce this on a minnie tomorrow.
