Cursor / mouse pointer disappears outside main menu on desktop (using Citrix Receiver for Chrome )

Reported by g.dek...@bdu.nl, Jun 20 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8172.47.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.79 Safari/537.36
Platform: 8172.47.0 (Official Build) stable-channel zako

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. use Citrix Receiver for Chrome # 2.0.0.48
2. start Windows application which opens multiple windows
3. drag something from one window to another. Cursor and object icon disappear when leaving the window. Drag-and-drop is not possible.
Also cursor disappears within application (e.g. Indesign) when hovering between different sections of the window

What is the expected behavior?
Cursor does not disappear

What went wrong?
Cursor disappears when leaving main window so e.g. drag-and-drop is not possible. Also cursor (sometimes !) disappears when hovering over different sections in window.

Did this work before? Yes Before the last Chrome update (using Citrix Reveiver for Chrome #2.0.0.48)

Chrome version: 51.0.2704.79 Channel: stable
OS Version: 8172.47.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

Regrettably the screencast does only show the icon in the main window , not the mouse pointer but it is there. Screencast does show the disappearing of the icon when leaving the window. In reality mouse + icon vanish when leaving the main window to drop the icon in the other window.

xiaoyinh@ this sounds similar/the same as the other issue we discussed this morning.
I'm experiencing the same problem when connecting to my Windows 7 work desktop using my Dell Chromebox. For what it's worth, after the cursor disappears, if I set the Windows 7 mouse pointer to "show trails", then I can see the cursor again.
This appears to be the same issue as 618597, but the issue is intermittent to me(trying to repro for 2 weeks, but only happened one time. I'm using same version of chrome and citrix Receiver), which make it difficult to debug as the issue disappeared after I reconnected to the virtual desktop.

Is there a way to trigger this issue more often than others, like using certain apps or doing certain operations?

Comment 4 by g.dek...@bdu.nl, Jun 22 2016

The problem is intermittent indeed but when it's there it happens all the
time from that moment on. But it is difficult to reproduce using generic
software.
This afternoon I saw it happening again when a user wanted to store a PDF
file from within Adobe Reader. (within a Citrix session !)
To select the proper folder ("Save as ..") he wanted to expand a folder .
When he pointed the cursor to the foldername the cursor disappeared. When
pointing to the "+" symbol in front of the foldername, the cursor showed
again and the folder was expanded.

We also use Adobe Indesign via Citrix. Many times the cursor just vanishes
when moving from one window to another part of the screen.

I will try to reproduce the problem myself using Adobe Reader so it's
easier to reproduce the bug. At our company the users get very annoyed and
I am wondering why it seems that not many other people world-wide have
this problem.

Tell me If I can be of any help to solve the problem.

Over the course of a 10 hour work day, it will happen to me at least 5 times, with the only way to clear it being disconnecting from my virtual desktop then reconnecting. I haven't figured out exactly what triggers it. It seems that the more I move windows around within my virtual desktop, the more likely it is to happen, but that may just be in my head. I looked at issue 618597 , and I don't get much flickering of my cursor. Here are a few other pieces of input that may or may not help. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist.

- When I say the cursor disappears, it doesn't entirely disappear. Rather, certain symbols become invisible. For example, the little windows cursor symbol of a pointing finger for links might "disappear", meaning whenever I scroll over a link, I can't see the cursor finger pointer symbol. But other symbols, such as a regular pointer, would still be visible. Sometimes, one symbol will go out, then I'll keep using it and another will go out, until the cursor is almost entirely invisible. It's not one specific type of symbol that always disappears. One time it might by the pointing finger, the next time the typing cursor bar, the next time the double arrow for resizing a window, etc.
- I attempted to demonstrate this to a co-worker by doing a Skype (i.e. MS Lync) screen share within my virtual desktop to her virtual desktop. I believe she was on the Windows Citrix client, while I was on the Chrome OS Citrix web app. Interestingly, when I moused over something such that the cursor symbol disappeared, she could still see it. In other words, though I could not see the cursor on my screen using my Chromebox, she could see it in my Lync screen share on her screen.
- It's worth noting that I'm quite a distance away from the data center that is serving our Citrix virtual desktops. I'm sitting in Arizona, and the data center is in Virginia. They are supposed to be setting the service in our Arizona data center next week. It will be telling to see if that fixes the problem for me.
- In addition to using this on a Chromebox, I also use it on my Chromebook Pixel. The size of the cursor when using my Chromebox (with whatever default resolution I get for the monitor) is as you'd expect. But when I connect to the desktop from my Chromebook Pixel, the size of the cursor is tiny. Everything else on the desktop is rendered in normal size with the Pixel. I bring this up because apparently the cursor is behind rendered differently than everything else, as it's probably scaling the cursor to the native Pixel resolution (which is very fine grained, hence small) instead what it should be (bigger but higher resolution). Not sure if that is relevant but I figured I'd throw it in there.

Regards,
Joe
We experience a disappearing cursor issue with VMware Horizon HTML5 client - running in a tab.

We do not experience the issue when using the ChromeOS Horizon native app.

akira-san, this is the cursor issue I mentioned yesterday. Do you think this is related to the issue observed on windows?
What is the version of VDA? Please try http://www.carlstalhood.com/virtual-delivery-agent-vda-7-6-1000-ltsr-cu1/ to see if you can still see the issue.

Thank you

gbirtchnell@, could you help answer the question in comment 8?
The link provided seems to require some setup in the server side.

What's the status on this one? Is it the same as bug 618597 ?
Mergedinto: 618597
Status: Duplicate (was: Assigned)
Re #11: Based on the reported behavior, I think this is duplication of bug 618597 .

Comment 13 by g.dek...@bdu.nl, Aug 17 2016

Bug 618597 is solved by version 52.0.2743.116 (stable).
But this problem still exists, so it is not a duplication.

Successive drag-and-drop operations fail.
The first time an object can be dragged and dropped succesfully into another window. A small representation of the object ("object icon") is attached to the cursor and you can move that outside the active window to another window and finish the operation.
When you try this a second time the cursor and the icon disappear when you move the cursor out of the active window and the drag and drop operation fails.

g.dekker@,
Does it always fail on the second time and afterwards?

I tried to drag a document out to another browser window, the cursor looks fine.
So if could you share some details how to reproduce this: is the window refers to different application windows in the task bar? And what objects do you use to drag and drop?

Hi,

I wanted to use Screencastify to make a video which shows you what happens on the screen in our specific situation. However when replaying the video, the cursor is not recorded att al. Just using the MS Explorer (and Citrix Receiver).

I attached a video. It records drag-and-drop of a file with MS Explorer using Citrix Receiver. Bases upon the activity's on the screen (moving file from folder "My downloaded files" to folder "Mindmaps" and back again to folder "my downloaded files") you can imagine which kind of cursor should appear.
But there's no cursor in the recording.
Perhabs related to issue #619872 ?

Re#15: Yes, that's another scenario which we currently don't support.

I tried to drag files between different directories, but still not able to reproduce. Is this issue intermittent?

Comment 17 by g.dek...@bdu.nl, Aug 25 2016

The drag-and-drop between different directories is no problem, only when
you try to demonstrate this using Screencastify. But as you explained
that's a known bug.

The other problem is still there and is not intermittent.
But it is very hard to explain when it happens because apparantly it has to
do with our specific application , Citrix and ChromeOS.
We solved it by using a Windows PC and Citrix.
