Chrome PDF viewer - Not displaying the markup for a check box in PDF file

Reported by ramnaray...@gmail.com, Jun 17 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/50.0.2661.102 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
I have a PDF which has a check box selected. When I view the PDF using the Chrome PDF viewer, I don't see the check box checked. The check box is selected when I view the PDF in IE.

The PDF is generated using a JAVA program which used itext PDF library.

What is the expected behavior?
The selected mark up for the check box needs to be displayed in the Chrome PDF viewer if the check box is selected in the file sent from the JAVA program.

What went wrong?
I have a PDF which has a check box selected. When I view the PDF using the Chrome PDF viewer, I don't see the check box checked. The check box is selected when I view the PDF in IE.

The PDF is generated using a JAVA program which used itext PDF library.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 50.0.2661.102 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

Components: Internals>Plugins>PDF
Please attach a sample PDF, so others can see the problem.
The PDF is confidential from our customers and cannot be shared. However, I believe this should be reproducible with any PDF.
Sorry, that doesn't help. If "this should be reproducible with any PDF" then please find a broken example. I tried http://www.thewebjockeys.com/TheWebJockeys/Fillable_PDF_Sample_from_TheWebJockeys_vC5.pdf which has checkboxes and they display a check mark when clicked upon.

Hi,

Please some one can look and reply.

Is reproduce.docx suppose to contain a screenshot to show sample_pdf.pdf does not render correctly in Chrome? If so, the image attached into the .docx file is extremely low resolution and blurry.

In any case, I cannot reproduce the problem here on Windows with Chrome 51.0.2704.106. Attached is a screenshot of what I see when rendering sample_pdf.pdf. The checkboxes render fine AFAICT.

Works for me with 53.0.2785.116 on Windows 7.
Thanks, You may be opening a file directly in chrome from your file system which even works for me.

Problem occurs when Application makes a call to server (which uses IText to process pdfs) and then sent back to UI(Chrome). UI is just an iframe which makes a call to application url.

So there could be either an issue with Itext(they ruled out) or with chrome pdf viewer (may be because of difference in pdf standard)

Reference of our communication with Itext can be seen here -
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/39450688/itext-pdf-radioboxon-off-not-appearing-for-some-pdf

Appreciate your guidance on this.
When I put "PDF example.pdf" on a web server, it still works fine. If you have a web site that can demonstrate this bug, please give us a link so we can try it there.
Thanks.

My chrome version upgraded to 54 , and issue still persist.

I am in process to create sample web application which you can use to reproduce the issue.

Can someone please look and update ?

All the pdf files you attached at #4 and #11 seem working fine. We don't see any problem. If you have an example pdf can show the problem, pls attach it. If this is related to your application or configuration, pls try to diagnose at your end first. thanks.
Thanks. Can you please share the screenshot of the web application that you configured and verified (I shared in comment#17) ?

PDF example.pdf inside resource/ of zip file can be used to reproduce the issue.

In this zip there are .docx file which suggest how to configure and reproduce.

Please can you provide update based on web app provided on comment#17 ?
Please provide the update on the issue.
We have not looked into this yet. We'll update the bug with more findings when we have them. In the meantime, you're welcome to try to take a look yourself, the source is all available online.
Hope you would have got some update on the issue.

If not, is there any way to expedite the process ?

Setting PDF bugs assigned to me back to untriaged so they can get re-assigned as needed.

I also cannot reproduce the bug when opening the PDFs locally. Do you get the issue when opening them locally?

In comment #14, thestig@ already tried on a web server, and it didn't reproduce either.
