OSX MD: Dim line through username button on hover

Issue description

Chrome 53.0.2767.0 
OSX 10.11.5

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Hover over the username button on a Retina screen.

What is the expected output?
The button shows a hover effect without a line through it.

What do you see instead?
There is a very dim line through the whole button (hover.png). It has lighting effects extending to just beyond the left and right sides of the buttons.
