I don't really understand the utility to the slightly smaller vs fully expanded state of the "big toolbar".
1) When I click on the toolbar is gets slightly bigger. There's really no reason it couldn't have been bigger by default, there's enough space... it just, needs to spread out on the couch for some reason.
2) Subtle things like the text size, color, and magnifying glass color change. This is weird because my predatory eyes get distracted, and my higher order thinking is trying extract the meaning of this ("What subtle message is Google trying to convey to me?"). If the answer is "search is focused", is that why we have a blinking cursor inside? Are we totally opposed to the growing underline thing that the rest of material design seems to like?
