Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2763.0 Safari/537.36 Example URL: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. unclear 2. 3. What is the expected behavior? - Pardon the weird title, but I don't know well how to describe it http://recordit.co/bzTDYN6XqB (same file than the one attached) - It's hard to reproduce, it probably happens on any contenteditable, and I've seen it while testing http://output.jsbin.com/borece, it's really hard to make it happen, and I don't know what exactly triggers it. Once it happens, refreshing doesn't fix it, only closing and reopening Chrome fixes it. The selection when clicking in the text should always be collapsed What went wrong? The selection as seen on the video, is always wrapping one character, instead of being collapsed, the caret is not visible anymore Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? N/A Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 53.0.2763.0 Channel: dev OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

This may be the result of pressing the "insert" key to switch to overtype mode. In overtype mode, the cursor is always shown as a single-character selection, and typing replaces that character instead of inserting content before it. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to detect and/or switch this mode from JavaScript. The selection API still reports a collapsed selection.
