This only seems to be an issue with LXDE. Resuming works fine with KDE.

I can confirm the continued existence of this issue using Lubuntu 16.04 and Chromium (57.0.2987.98-0ubuntu0.16.04.1276). When one resumes after a suspension (e.g. owing to a lid close or timeout), Chromium freezes and has to be killed. It is then not possible to successfully restart Chromium again (i.e. without immediate freezing) until the computer is rebooted.
