Pressing Home/End in a large document hides the content for a bit

Project Member Reported by phistuck@gmail.com, Jun 8 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.63 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
data:text/html,<!doctype html><body style="background-color: black; color: white"><script>document.write('ppp '.repeat(1e6))</script>

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to the URL.
2. Press End.

What is the expected behavior?
The content will either smooth scroll, or just scroll.

What went wrong?
The content disappears for a bit and then shows up again.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes Before smooth scrolling :P

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 51.0.2704.63 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

Components: -Blink Blink>Scroll
Status: Untriaged (was: Unconfirmed)
Note that Internet Explorer simply does not smooth scroll when you press Home or End. Perhaps this is the solution, because the current implementation looks a bit ridiculous...

This is a regression, but since this is some sort of an edge case, this is mainly a polish for the smooth scrolling feature, I am not increasing the priority.

This issue has been Available for over a year. If it's no longer important or seems unlikely to be fixed, please consider closing it out. If it is important, please re-triage the issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience if the bug really should have been left as Available. If you change it back, also remove the "Hotlist-Recharge-Cold" label.

This still reproduces in 63.0.3230.0. Not sure what we'd want to do here. It disappears because it hasn't been rastered yet. We could block the animation on raster but that would make the scroll janky (this would also be non trivial work).

We could do the instant jump on really long pages, as suggested, but that introduces magical behavior differences for little gain IMHO. I'm inclined to just mark this WontFix. skobes@, WDYT?
