Opening new tabs with middle click or ctrl+left click causes massive slowdown

Reported by sekula...@gmail.com, Jun 3 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2756.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.Use middle click or ctrl+left click to open multiple new tabs
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
Using middle click or ctrl+left click to open multiple tabs is causing slowdown of the entire browser until they are loaded, also tabs that were opened don't get there own process instead they merge with the tab they where opened from and after closing them the memory they were using remains on the main tab

Did this work before? Yes It worked on Chrome 50.0.2661.102

Chrome version: 53.0.2756.0 Channel: dev
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

Unable to reproduce the issue on win8.1 chrome version 53.0.2763.0 - No lag observed on opening new tabs with Ctrl+T

Middle click on a tab closes the tab and Ctrl+left key has no functionality as such.

Could you please try the same on a new profile and let us know your observations. You can create a new profile from chrome://settings

Its not from opening new tabs but opening tabs from links in current tab with middle click or ctrl+left click also no difference with new profile

Able to reproduce the issue on win8.1 chrome version 53.0.2785.8 and canary 54.0.2797.0 - Navigated to cnn.com and using middle click or Ctrl+left key opened sevarl tabs(around 20) observed the performance on the first tab (cnn.com) is lagging while other tabs are loading - Please find the screenshot for memory and cpu usage.

This seems to be working well in M50 50.0.2661.102 - Please find the screenshot

rschoen@, Could you please give an update on this with traces in comment #4
