new "Failure reason" step appears in cbuildbot logs; info not very relevant |

Issue descriptionA new step called "Failure reason" is appearing in our annotated build pages. e.g. https://uberchromegw.corp.google.com/i/chromeos/builders/master-paladin/builds/11336 In principle it would be lovely if we have a stage that summarizes the Failure reason. However, this one seems to be a buildbot-ism which is not aware of cbuildbot. All it says is "'cbuildbot [master-paladin]') failed with return_code 1" I'm worried that people unfamiliar with our builders are going to be distracted by this shiny new apparent explanation, and get confused. +dnj@ for comment

Sorry for delay, missed this bug I guess. The "failure reason" is an artifact of the recipe engine. The string itself is used to indicate why the build failed at a high level. We have established monitoring for this step and its value, so I don't see this changing. Has there been a lot of confusion over this? We can certainly have it emit more text to clarify things, but it seems like users would make the mistake at most once. |
