Issue descriptionExample URL: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Turn on the "Merge tabs and apps" feature of Chrome. 2. Go to a site with an sms: link for sending text messages. 3. Click the link. What is the expected behavior? A list of messaging apps is given and an SMS can be sent. What went wrong? A blank window is opened instead. Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? N/A Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 50.0.2661.89 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.0.1 Flash Version: Turning off "Merge tabs and apps" fixes this. For contact pages with sms: links this means having to copy the number and paste it into the SMS. Very annoying.

Our latest stable and beta channel of M51 will not have "Merge tabs and apps" option. Could you please check on M51 and let us know if the problem still exists?

, Jun 2 2016After a bit more experimentation, here is an interesting observation that may help in triage. Doing this with: window.location.href = 'sms:....'; works. Doing this with: window.open('sms:....', 'sms'); doesn't. It probably is in how new tasks are created in this mode.
