Google Site Gadgets that use Iframes can no longer be shown

Reported by eland...@appirio.com, May 31 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.63 Safari/537.36

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Create or use an existing Google Sites Gadget that uses Iframes.
2. Add Gadget to a Google Sites Page.
3. Observe that in Chrome 51 that the Google Gadgets are not shown, just a blank area.

What is the expected behavior?
The content inside of the gadget should be shown.

What went wrong?
The security updates for cross-origin items require that you tag the iframes as sandboxes, however in Google Sites you do not have access to modify that iframe headers.

Did this work before? Yes Chrome 50

Chrome version: 51.0.2704.63 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

We have rewrote most of our Gadgets so that they work and no longer require an XML file for configurations or iframes, however this is only a "Plan B" fix and this needs to be addressed either in Google Sites or an exception in Google Chrome for Google Sites.

Components: -Internals>Network Blink>HTML>IFrame
Updating the component to Blink>HTML>IFrame since network does not seem to be the root cause here and seems like a change in the way iframes are handled.

elandrum@: Is there an example page up somewhere that I could take a look at?

Closing this out, as it's tough to debug without a reproduction. If this is still an issue, please poke this bug and I'll reopen it!
