From my testing on a desktop, for the main Parse HTML (/Boston...) its Evaluate Script of content_script_compiled.js:1 has a Total Time 25.86 ms There are several other (4?) Parse HTML (about:blank) that each take between 6ms and 10ms. The source code is here in case you see any obvious performance things that we could improve: https://github.com/google/password-alert

This should be helped some by native extension bindings ( issue 653596 ), which will speed up the work chrome is doing, but it'll largely boil down to watchword doing a lot. My guess is that to truly improve this, we'd have to do a few deep dives into what it's doing and how to optimize it. For that, I think someone on the blink team would be most qualified.
