This is a correct behavior, and I confirmed Firefox works as same.
'dropDown' is a single SELECT. The first OPTION is selected by default.
$('select[name=drop-down]').html(dropDown.children());
This line removes the first OPTION from dropDown and add it to select[name=drop-down]. Removing the first OPTION triggers single SELECT selection reset algorithm, and the second OPTION will be selected.
