Could the fix be as simple as to make codesearch treat .mojom files like .cc files wrt syntax highlighting? Even if it's not perfect this would be a net improvement - I have my vim configured to display mojom files with c++ syntax highlighting and haven't noticed any oddness yet. 

I think cl/185202806 is all this will take!
