GPU freeze on Linux

Project Member Reported by kraynov@chromium.org, May 26 2016

Issue description

Version: 51.0.2704.63
OS: Goobuntu Laptop (Latest version for May 2016)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Launch browser
(2) See that window actually "took a screenshot" of everything below

What is the expected output?
Working browser.

What do you see instead?
Frozen picture, but after frequent minimize-maximize for about 5-10 seconds problem disappear. Adding Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" (instead of "sna") into Xorg config makes this problem less heavy.

Looks like we hang during startup for 5s. Some kind of GPU/window manager bug perhaps?

I think this hang might be manifesting itself on these two bots:

https://build.chromium.org/p/chromium.gpu.fyi/builders/Linux%20Release%20%28New%20Intel%29?numbuilds=200
https://build.chromium.org/p/chromium.gpu.fyi/builders/Linux%20Debug%20%28New%20Intel%29?numbuilds=200

There are frequent hangs during browser startup that are affecting many tests. We are seeing similar symptoms on some of the waterfall and CQ bots, though fortunately less frequently. It might be the case that the ultimate cause is a bug in the GPU process that is causing the browser process to hang.

Raising to P1. As far as I can tell this is happening on multiple platforms and is affecting the commit queue.

vmiura@ Can you please set the priority/milestone and find an owner?
Labels: -Pri-1 Pri-2
Reducing priority as I think the issues on the commit queue turned out to be something else.

I'm not sure when I'll have time to look at this, but looking into general GPU hang issues.

OK. In the interest of not leaving bugs hanging around arbitrarily let's close this as WontFix (not reproducible). I don't think we've reproduced the submitter's specific problem, and we aren't seeing browser hangs upon start at this point. (The problems that were seen at one point on macOS were machine misconfigurations.)
