Message selection in GMail has accessibility issues

Reported by mjanusau...@gmail.com, May 24 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2747.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Using the NVDA screen reader:
1. Go to GMail and using the arrow keys or J and K focus a message in the list and press X to select it.
2. Press the up or down arrow key, or J/K to move to the message before or after the one just selected.
3. Observe that the previously selected message is read instead of the one gaining focus as expected.

What is the expected behavior?
Each message conversation should be spoken as it is focused with the arrow keys or J and K.

What went wrong?
The previously focused message conversation is spoken instead.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 53.0.2747.0 Channel: canary
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

Pressing the applications key when a message conversation has focus opens the contextual menu but it is not accessible with the NVDA screen reader.
