Issue description
Chrome Version : 50.0.2661.102 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS Version: Debian 8.4
Other browsers tested:
Firefox 46.0.1: OK
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open the attached file e.html
2. The attached file e_Chrome.png shows what it looks like in the Chrome browser window. Firefox 46 looks very similar.
3. Now type Ctrl-P and Save as PDF
4. Compare the PDF produced to the screenshot.
What is the expected result?
I expect that the PDF looks like the screenshot.
The PDF produced by Firefox -- e_Firefox.pdf -- looks as I expect.
What happens instead of that?
The PDF produced by Chrome shows quite a bit of extra space below the red box. See the attached file e_Chrome.pdf.

I tested with Chrome 50.x and can reproduce the problem, but with 52.0.2729.3, the output is correct. (See attachment) This is likely the duplicate of another (fixed) bug. shans: Why is this not a CSS bug?

It's a printing bug. The CSS team isn't going to fix it (they have no experience fixing printing issues) so labeling it with CSS will only lead to the bug being ignored as both teams assume the other team will look at it.

shans: But from the printing side, all printing does is tell Blink "render for printing" - It's still up to Blink, which contains CSS code, to render / layout correctly. Fortunately in this case, the bug reporter kindly provided an easy to repro test case. I took the time just now to do the reverse bisect and this is fixed in r384518.

Glad to hear it. With regards to labels, in general I think we should be using them to direct bugs towards the teams that will fix them. You'll note that the fix here was in components/printing, not WebKit/core/css. It's fine to use the CSS label if you aren't sure about the source of a bug, but we are going to continue to be fairly strict about relabeling when we're reasonably convinced that we don't have the expertise to fix something. |
