Issue descriptionPRIVACY ISSUE After deleting all the history user will be able to see which tabs the previous user visited using shortcut key. This flaw is common across chrome, chromium across all platforms.(In a normal window) VERSION: Chromium Version: [49.0.2623.108] + [dev] Operating System: [Linux, 3.16.0-71-generic] Chromium Version: [53.0.2748.0] + [stable] Operating System: [Windows 7, ultimate-32bit, sp3] Chrome Version: [51.0.2704.54] + [stable] Operating System: [Windows 7, ultimate-32bit, sp3] REPRODUCTION STEPS 1]Open chromium and visit the sites you want (use multiple tabs and don't close them). 2]Now clear history(ctrl+h) (I cleared for past 1 hour). 3]Now all the history will be deleted from the chrome://history/ page. 4]Now don't close each tab that is open ,Instead close the browser itself. 5]Now reopen the browser and press shortcut "ctrl+shift+t" This will open all the previous tabs that were open even though the history was deleted

I guess the history is not cleared from the 'current tabs' and 'last tabs'.

Thanks for the report! As a one-off solution, it should work if you close the tabs first, and then you clear history. In the opposite order, if I understand it correctly, the open tabs will be saved in the session restore service when closing the browser, so any history clearing will not affect them. (But note that clearing history does remove the entries for previously closed tabs in the Settings > History > Recent Tabs menu). In that sense, this is working as designed, but I agree that the behavior is unexpected. My preference would be not to save the session at all if "Open a New tab" was selected in Sessions > Startup. Let me investigate...

Is this bug eligible for reward?

Unfortunately no. For one, this is a privacy, not a security bug. Furthermore, this is not a unique find, just one of the symptoms of the broken interaction between clearing history and clearing sessions - many similar bugs have been filed. This has (to my knowledge) never worked properly. But we're looking into ways to improve it!

I usually hate chrome developers for the way they design some ways to interact with chrome, but on this case they are doing it right. I don't expect chrome to clear OPEN TABS when clearing history, because: By definition, "history" is something that has happened in the past and no longer exists in the present. An open tab is something that is happening now and that has not gone, so I don't expect that to be cleared. What op wants is an enhancement, not a bug. he wants "clear all history AND close all tabs"

This sounds like the same issue as described in crbug.com/793918. We will remove entries from the navigation history in Chrome 67 that have been deleted from history but we will not affect currently visible pages. We are thinking about an additional option in Clear Browsing Data to also remove open tabs. |
