Works for me on ChromeOS M51. However, on linux dev (52.0.2738.0), I see the right shape, but the hearts are black.
Same issue here on OSX 10.11.3, Chrome 50.0.2661.102.

I noticed that this issue happens only for emoji's that use a variation selector. Adding a simple emoji (single unique code rather than 2) in front of an emoji that uses 2 unique codes actually fixes the issue.
Here is a test that shows this "fix": http://jsfiddle.net/4tv6h5m3/2/
Update: looks like Chrome 53.0.2754.0 canary build improved a bit. The emoji is now rendered correctly with any font with a font-size <= than 128px (see attached screenshot): http://jsfiddle.net/mzc6mvvn/2/
