Google Hangout - Shared photos = Depreciated Resolution

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/50.0.2661.102 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. sign into google hangouts
2. share a photo from your phone
3. view the photo you shared and compare its resolution to the one on your phone or even the same photo shared through a text message. Quality is much poorer than any other social media platform that I've encountered. It wasn't always this bad. WHY?

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
photo resolution is depreciated when shared on google hangouts. No problem, but so significant now that photos are difficult to see.

Has google begun depreciating photo's even further to save space now that photos are being auto saved from computers and cell phones? When I share a photo through google hangouts... it's almost impossible to view. They have become very blury. This wasn't always the case.

So what has changed?
