Device status bar font is in black when there are no tabs

App Version: 52.0.2735.0 canary 
iOS Version: 9.3.1, 9.3.2 
Device: iPad, iPhone 

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Chrome
2.(iPhone) Close all tabs 
  (iPad) Open NTP (or) Close all tabs 

Observed results:
Device status bar font is in black color 

Expected results:
Device status bar font should be in white color 

Number of times you were able to reproduce: 5/5
Bug reproducible after clean install: Yes
Bug reproducible after clearing cache and cookies: Yes
Bug reproducible on Chrome Mobile on Android: NA
Bug reproducible on Dolphin/Safari/Firefox: Firefox: NA, Safari: NA
Bug reproducible on current stable build (App Version, iOS Version): No on M50
Bug reproducible on the current beta channel build (App Version, iOS Version): No on M51

Also observed that Status bar is not at all displayed on iPhones in Landscape mode.

This issue was fixed on trunk, but not cherrypicked into the beta branch. It's now been cherrypicked and should be fixed in the next build.

(the issue this is a dupe of has been marked as fixed).

Status bar font is in white color. 
Retested with the above steps on iPad Mini(9.3.1), iPhone 6+(9.2.1) in 52.0.2743.46 dev
