Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/50.0.2661.94 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Open http://www.rwth-aachen.de/global/show_document.asp?id=aaaaaaaaaabifku 2. Scroll to page 2 3. Enter long text in first form field "Institutskennziffer" 4. Focus some other form field 5. Select the whole text in first form field with the mouse from left to right 6. Select the whole text in first form field with the mouse from right to left 7. Copy that text (Ctrl-C or context menu) 8. Paste some text (Ctrl-V or context menu) What is the expected behavior? 5. works 6. works 7. works 8. works What went wrong? 5. Works, but is pretty difficult to do the first time. It seems focusing the form field and selecting text cannot be done at the same time. Sometimes I even need three tries. 6. Works when going slow, but is pretty difficult to include the first (left-most) letter if moving the mouse fast. 7. Does not; context menu does not show "Copy" 8. Does not; context menu does not show "Past" Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 50.0.2661.94 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0 Same in Version 52.0.2729.0 canary (64-bit)

Would you agree this is a duplicate of bug 59266 ?

thestig: Partially, yes. Lack of clipboard functionality is certainly the same as in bug 59266 . This bug here describes an extra issue, though, which is the bad text selection using the mouse. (I attribute this mostly to the text selection lagging behind the mouse pointer, and the fact that text selection stops to grow when the mouse pointer leaves the form field. Together, this explains why you often miss the first character(s) when selecting *fast* from right to left, but not the other way or when doing the same slowly.) When you merge this bug into the other, it would be nice if that side-issue will not be lost.

I also found related bug 108662 today.

This issue has been Available for over a year. If it's no longer important or seems unlikely to be fixed, please consider closing it out. If it is important, please re-triage the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience if the bug really should have been left as Available. If you change it back, also remove the "Hotlist-Recharge-Cold" label. Steps 7 and 8 (copy/paste) now work, as bug 59266 was fixed. As for the rest of the problems, they still exist and I'll merge this bug into bug 768520. It lists a bunch of problems with selection in edits, including the drag problem. |
