After choosing "Hide in Menu" for an extension, uninstalling another extension visible in the toolbar makes the most recently hidden extension visible in the toolbar again

Reported by jack.sob...@gmail.com, May 6 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : Google Chrome	50.0.2661.94 (Official Build) (64-bit)
URLs (if applicable) : n/a
Other browsers tested: n/a

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Have at least two installed Chrome extensions visible in the toolbar.
(2) Right click and choose to "Hide in Menu" one of the extensions.
(3) Right click and choose to "Remove from Chrome..." the other extension which is still visible in toolbar.

What is the expected result?
The uninstalled extension icon must disappear only.

What happens instead?
The extension icon you chose to "Hide in Menu" in step 2 gets added to the toolbar again.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Extension icons which the user has specifically chosen to "Hide in Menu" should not reappear in the toolbar after uninstalling another unrelated extension. They should stay hidden in the menu.
This is particularly annoying since I'm developing a chrome extension and testing what it does upon installation and startup. Everytime I uninstall it to retest, my other hidden chrome extensions eventually all reappear in the toolbar if I don't hide them again.

(PS. Unrelated to this bug, having a ton of chrome extension icons in the chrome menu is very ugly in my opinion. I would love the option to just completely hide them and only see them in chrome://extensions, I only have one or two extensions I interact with, the others I don't want to clutter my interface)

Thank you for checking. I've checked your screencast, and it seems like the "Hide in Chrome menu" button has been removed and replaced with "Hide button" in your version?

I've just reproduced it on the current stable version on Linux and ChromeOS, and the issue persists. I've attached my screencast from my chromebook which reproduces the issue for you. Let me know if you need anymore information.

I can confirm. Windows 7 Chrome Version 55.0.2883.87 m
When an extension visible in the toolbar is uninstalled a hidden extension appears in the toolbar. Not sure if it only happens on uninstall, i think it might happen in other cases, but it definitely happens and it's annoying to be hiding all those extensions again.

No luck , unable to reproduce this issue on Windows-10 using chrome latest stable M55-55.0.2883.87 by following steps mentioned in the original comment. Observed the hidden extension icon is not getting added back while removing the extension from tool bar.

dhaddock@ Do you have any update on this issue?
I tried to repro this on the latest M56 beta on ChromeOS and can't reproduce it either

It's easily reproducible if you have 10+ extensions enabled: Chrome keeps the extension toolbar shelf width constant so when an extension that has an icon in the toolbar is removed/disabled another one is shown in its place. Not sure I'd call this is a bug.
