Page goes blank for a few seconds when scrolling

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/52.0.2716.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
It seems to be triggered by scrolling.

What is the expected behavior?
The content should just scroll without disappearing.

What went wrong?
The page goes completely blank for a few seconds then gets redrawn. I've experienced it on multiple sites, including Facebook. I'm not sure, but I think the affected pages have been fairly long with lots of text and images.

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A 

Did this work before? Yes I think it was OK up to and including version 51, it seems to have started with 52.

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

It's a Macbook Pro Retina 13" 11,1. But in that second page I found they mention NVidia drivers.

This sounds like a performance issue pushing new tiles so not really related to scrolling.

It might be helpful if you attach a trace while scrolling. Details are here: https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/trace-event-profiling-tool but here's the tl;dr

1. Open the page exhibiting the problem
2. Open a new tab and go to chrome://tracing
3. Click the record button
4. Select "Manually select settings" and under "Record Categories" on the left column below select all (leave the right column empty)
5. Hit "Record"
6. Switch back to the page and scroll so that you see the issue. There's a limited buffer size when recording so you may need to stop and start recording if the issue doesn't show up on the first try.
7. Switch back to the tracing tab, end the trace, click "save" and attach it here

(Note: This will capture data about the browser and all open tabs so make sure you don't have anything sensitive/private open).

Sorry about the delay. I discovered a convenient site for triggering the bug at <waterstones.com>, but naturally it gave me a hard time trying to reproduce it for debugging purposes!

I had 2 additional tabs open. One for this page, and one containing a game I'm developing which consists of a full-screen canvas using WebGL, and I had the developer tools open in that tab too. I'm not sure whether the dev tools are significant, but it did seem that having the WebGL tab present in another tab was necessary to reproduce the bug.
