I'm escalating this ticket a bit and marking it as a stable release blocker (which means it needs a fix ASAP), as I've seen two reviews for Chrome Beta in the Play Store that look similar to this: - Can't cast from video player Beta version doesn't let you cast from the video player like the current release version does (51.0.2704.43 ZenFone) - No more cast support? I used to be able to cast videos fron the browser to my chromecast, but now it only works on regular chrome (not my default) chrome beta was the best, i didnt even mind the regular bugs, but i do use my chromecast a lot, please fix it (51.0.2704.43 Galaxy Note 4) If casting is busted that seems like an important issue to me. Thoughts?

+hubbe to look at this for M52 if it's Spitzer related.

This doesn't seem to be spitzer related. With a ToT build, I can't seem to find a way to cast this video with or without spitzer.

OK, can we get this fixed by Monday and merged back to 2704 on Tuesday? Can we also confirm we don't have more broad failure to cast videos? I'd doubt that the two comments I found in Play Store reviews were specific to CNET.

I'm afraid, something in cnet.com has changed - when inspecting the video page I see an "overlays" div with mouse click listener above the video element. We don't show the overlay Cast button if we detect there's something between the button and the media element itself to avoid overlapping with website's UI. I see the same behavior in Chrome Stable.

And we're sure we have no broader issues elsewhere?

I've been looking at other bugs filed during the last QA testing round and closed them (they don't seem to reproduce anymore, facebook.com being the most notable one). vimeo.com stopped working, sadly, but that's because they seem to have moved to MSE and Clank only casts downloadable videos. Moving to MSE is more of a global trend on the web atm. We're working on adding support for casting MSE content but that's not going to be implemented anytime short term. |
