MD Settings: Reset prompt always appears

The "Chrome detected that some of your settings were corrupted by another program and reset them to their original defaults." message displays on opening Chrome for the first time (creating a new profile) and on subsequent launches as well.

I'm using --user-data-dir=/tmp/foo to avoid corrupting my real profiles.

For the cases when you see the banner, does the old Options code NOT display the banner?

I have not been able to ever see the banner unless I manually trigger it (and I am not able to reproduce).

Are you running two different Chrome versions pointing at the same profile at the same time (not sure if that is even possible)? That could be triggering it.

Either way need help to reproduce.

My build is actually very f*cked. I cannot explain what I am seeing. So this is probably just a side effect of that.
