Can't save web page PDF snapshots to Google Drive without CloudPrint

Reported by larrylac...@yahoo.com, May 3 2016

Issue description

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Try to print/save a page as a PDF to Google Drive
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior?
This worked in Chrome 49

What went wrong?
As announced after the fact (Introducing Chrome 50 - Help Forum)
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/N0OGZAc-7Gs
GoogleCloudPrint (GCP) was removed for iOS Chrome 50.

GCP was the pathway for saving page snapshots as PDFs to Google Drive. Without GCP there is no convenient workaround for doing this.

Did this work before? Yes m 49

Chrome version: 50.0.2661.95 Channel: stable
OS Version: 9.3.1
Flash Version: Unknown

Several users have asked to restore at least this minimum capability - print as PDF, save to Google Drive.

Posted on behalf of user requests in the Help Forum.
Please respond there, or I'll carry the status back.

+mardini@. Any ideas?
I am one of the many users who have been handicapped by Google's code-based decision to remove this feature from the iOS Chrome 50. I had no choice about installing the Chrome 50 update; it was imposed on my device automatically.

Google, please put this feature back. It was one of the selling points for me to use Google Drive in my operations, which span Macs, Windows and various devices. The feature you removed hampers communications in my business.

What happened to C#3 by Carlosro re testing on an XE303? I just reported Google Drive print as 'restored in next release (v51)' to the user community. Retract in progress..
I found that my comment was more related to a different crbug than this one, some details were irrelevant and not helpful for this one.

The most important detail was the fact that I couldn't replicate the issue on CrOS beta, dev and canary. The issue seems to be happening only at the current stable release.
Carlos: This issue 608865 is an iOS (only?) problem: no print as PDF to Google Drive after iOS lost CloudPrint. Are you saying this (print to GoogleDrive) is also a problem for CrOS, but only for v50 (stable)? An interesting observation, but probably doesn't move the iOS issue forward.

Bottomline: still waiting on input for iOS Chrome
Yes, I was so rushed to find information that I didn't pay attention that this was iOS related, here's the other crbug related to CrOS: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=595503

This missing functionality really impairs the usability of Chrome on iOS for me. Please restore this feature :)

We understand that save-this-page-as-pdf-to-google-drive is a useful feature for many Chrome users. We are investigating technical feasibility of bringing this back along the lines of saving page as PDF file and then use Google Drive App Extension (which you get when you install Google Drive app on your iOS device) to upload the saved PDF file to Drive.

pkl@ did we reach any resolution here? Should we close as won't fix?
Yes, go ahead and close it. It seems Amazon has provided a workaround.
OK by me (author). I was only acting as an intermediary for comments I heard in the Chrome 50 What's New forum, many releases ago. Carolebe was the only user who followed up here.

The iOS print to PDF to Google drive capability may have been restore in M51??

pkl@ should we try fixing this (sharing a file from chrome to drive)? Or is it OK to mark as won't fix now?

It would be great if you could share the page in pdf form directly to
google drive. Right now my workflow is to open the page in chrome on iOS,
copy link, close chrome, open safari, share, create pdf, share, to google
drive. Not optimal :(

Safari has a Create PDF action (in the activities). Adding that extension to Chrome seems like the right approach. Changing this to a feature request.
Noogler project ?
I currently use the same workaround :(

It would be great if this could be implemented.
