Cannot open links in new tab

Project Member Reported by jainabhi...@chromium.org, May 3 2016

Issue description

Version: M49 - M50
OS: Android

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open Google.com
(2) Search for something
(3) Long press a link and try to open it in new tab

What is the expected output?
Link should open in a new tab

What do you see instead?
Chrome window pops up from bottom of screen (we see some animation) and then nothing happens

I can repro it 100% on N6P
Device Details
Chrome : 50.0.2661.89
OS : Android 6.0.1; Nexus 6P; MTC19T

Tried to explore this a bit further and found link opened in a new tab on Android.

I feel this is just confusing behaviour where link opens in new tab but because Omnibox is hidden, I do not get any confirmation if new tab opened or not. I am not alone though, we have received about 154 user feedback reports in last 14 days

Request :
1. Either make omnibox visible to show new tab did really open
2. switch to new tab

can no longer replicate the issue.
This is just a UX issue where it is hard to say if page opened up in a new tab or not.
