Chrome distorts desktop background before opening up.

Project Member Reported by crouleau@chromium.org, Apr 29 2016

Issue description

Version: 50.0.2661.94
OS: Linux 3.13.0-85-generic #129-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open Chrome from scratch (no Chrome process currently running) on a blank desktop.

Before the window opens up, the section of the desktop where the window is going to open starts as a miniature version of the desktop background, and then grows. Then the window opens. This all happens during a period of less than a second.

If people care about this, I can figure out how to record it happening, since I have the equipment. But since it's really easy to reproduce, I figured I probably wouldn't need to.

Note that this bug does not show up for Firefox.

Thanks for your report. Is this on Unity, or Cinnamon? Could you also attach the contents of chrome://gpu on your machine?

Thanks for the report. The issue happens because Chrome creates its X Window a while before filling it with content, causing garbage to be shown. See 554008 for more details.
