Black Screen when launching Chrome

Reported by ron.w.da...@gmail.com, Apr 24 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version : 50.0.2661.87
URLs (if applicable) : all
Other browsers tested: Microsoft Edge Mozilla Firefox
Add OK or FAIL, along with the version, after other browsers where you
have tested this issue:
     Safari:
    Firefox: 45.0.2 OK
         IE: 25.10586.0.0 OK

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1)accessing chrome
(2)
(3)

What is the expected result? Having the chrome startup screen with recent pages and the ability to navigate to a web address.

What happens instead?
Launch Chrome it stays a black screen with no access to address bar, settings, or recent pages. The screen shows the mouse pointer with loading wheel which is fast flashing like it is trying to load but failing. No failure message is seen as screen is black. I can access settings occasionally by using CTRL+SHIFT+T. I cleared browser data and cache, uninstalled and reinstalled chrome, ran virus/malware program, and restarted pc. I have Windows 10, issue began yesterday evening but chrome worked earlier in the day. When I can access settings I do have the address bar option at the top of the page. If I input any address it shows connecting and access established at the bottom of the screen but all pages remain black as the chrome browser is not working.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Thanks for the report. I am unable to reproduce the above issue on windows 10 with chrome version '50.0.2661.87'. I would request you please try the above issue by creating a new user from chrome://settings? and let us know if the issue still persists.

Also, try a fresh install by taking backup of your data, if the above solution does't work.

Thank you!
Another user reported similar issue with Chrome 50.0.2661.87.
When restoring browser window from minimized state, there is a short(sometimes as long as 3-5 seconds) flicker of black screen.
This issue has not been encountered before Chrome 50.
Please check the attached video.

I have the problem not just a few seconds but continuous when launch
chrome. I have the issue with chrome 50 and canary 52. I have tried the
chrome cleanup tool however it does not work as I receive a windows error
that no program is installed. I installed malwarebites from the help
articles: results no issues found. I have occasionally been able to get one
or two browser session after uninstalling and reinstall using the alternate
install page provided by forum support or by creating a new chrome profile.
This does not work each time and is only a temporary fix as the browser
again returns to a black screen. It may be the very next time launching
browser or after the 3rd time. I have windows 10 there is a help forum for
this issue. It has been reported by myself and at least one other user. I
would really love to have my chrome back. I have uninstalled it at this
time but willing to reinstall to troubleshoot at any time.

Still unable to reproduce the above issue on latest chrome version '50.0.2661.102' on windows 7 & 10. I would request you to please try the above issue on latest chrome version and let us know if the issue still persists.

I really appreciate your help.

Thank you!
I had uninstalled chrome until I received your message today. I have downloaded chrome again today and still have the same issue.
I have attached another screenshot of the black screen. The loading wheel next to the mouse pointer continues to flash as if it is loading, yet the screen stays dark. I cannot access settings or any websites. The version installed today is 50.0.2661.102

I am not the only person with this issue. It is on both google chrome and canary. Her is a link to the forums with this issue.

If I create a new chrome profile occasionally I can get access to the normal google start up page and address bar. However any website I try navigating to is a black screen again. I will include 2 screenshot examples. I have ran virus software no issues found. The google chrome cleanup tool will not work as it gives a windows error after saying no program installed. Based on troubleshooting for malware (in the link for google cleanup tool) I installed malware bytes and still no issues found. I'm willing to troubleshoot and resolve this issue as I really miss having my chrome browser.

The error when running the google cleanup tool:
rundll21.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.
I found a chrome help forum for this issue. It fixed the problem https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/MJjuK65Exkg
