Make GN support NON-Chrome projects |

Issue descriptionI use GYP for all my personal and experimentation projects, but I see the benefits of GN. Are there plans to make GN support non-chrome projects? Running `gn init` (or any other command) outside a chromium checkout gives the following error: gn.py: Could not find checkout in any parent of the current path. This must be run inside a checkout.

gn.py is a depot_tools wrapper that works specifically w/ some of the chromium-infra projects. I wouldn't want to encourage people to use it for their own projects. People can build or download existing GN binaries and write their own build files today, so in that sense you can do whatever you'd like right now. There is some desire to package up some form of GN to make things easier to reuse, though. See bug 504074 .
