On Windows the unexpected behaivor often occurs with extension icons (e.g. Adblock Plus). It previously would always occur, but testing it again after update to Chrome 50 appears to have fixed it (it appears intermittent and was not tested much; the issue could still be present).

P.S. For Adblock Plus with its own menu the issue is currently not present, but for McAfee WebAdvisor with Chrome's menu the issue is currently present. However, the same issue is sometimes present with the Windows taskbar; this might not be an issue after all. (On the Windows taskbar the similar incident occurred with Chrome but it's still likely a Windows issue in this situation.)

agoode@, I cannot reproduce this on 50.0.2661.79 beta-channel or 52.0.2708.0 canary-channel on Chrome OS. Can you please do the following:

* Go to chrome://help and click "Check for and apply updates" to update to the latest version. Does it still reproduce after updating?

* Go to chrome://flags and switch the #top-chrome-md flag to "Non-material". Does it still reproduce?

It depends on the click duration. If you click fast enough, the menu does not return. If you are a slower clicker, the menu retriggers.

If you are still unable to reproduce, I will go through your steps in the next day or so.

I looked into this a bit more and can reproduce on very old versions (M43 on Windows and M44 on ChromeOS, though interestingly this does not reproduce on Linux). Looks like a longstanding issue unrelated to material design. Seems to happen on anything using the MenuButton class (e.g., extension buttons which show a menu, such as Google Dictionary).

On Chrome 51.0.2704.22, this issue did not reproduce with extensions that use their own custom menus, like Adblock Plus, but did reproduce with extensions that do not use their own custom menus, like McAfee WebAdvisor. Like Adblock Plus, the issue also does not reproduce with Google Dictionary (unlike comment #4).

Can confirm that this happens on slow click. (tested on Chrome 53 on Windows)

This also happens on the shelf. You can open multiple chrome windows and reproduce with the window menu that appears when clicking the chrome icon.

issue 329850 tracks this happening for extension buttons. It also now only happens there with a small mouse move during the click.

Other menus have been fixed by m60.
