[Linux]: Chrome Remote Desktop apt-get update error |
|||||||||||||
Issue descriptionI get update errors for Chrome Remote Desktop on my home machine (Linux Mint), despite having 50.0.2661.75 (64-bit)stable channel of Chrome installed. The machine IS fetching updates to CRD, but still gives the following error on "sudo apt-get update": W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome-remote-desktop/deb/dists/stable/Release Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file) E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

dgarrett@, I looked around a bit, and it looks like CRD copies the relevant packaging configs from the main Chrome installer, so it should get the fix at the same time Chrome does (https://codereview.chromium.org/1897933002/). I don't know what their release schedule is though, but it probably isn't as frequent as Chrome. +sergeyu, who might know more of that.

Changing status to make sure it gets discussed at triage.

Erik, can you take this since you've been looking at the packaging system recently? Lambros can probably help you out.

The following revision refers to this bug: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/20447ead8ba4b9bf3310da0d80a23a199aba1d60 commit 20447ead8ba4b9bf3310da0d80a23a199aba1d60 Author: lambroslambrou <lambroslambrou@chromium.org> Date: Wed May 25 00:20:51 2016 [remoting host] Fix the APT repository setup in the Debian package. This adds the [arch=] qualifier to the APT sources.list entry for Chrome Remote Desktop, so that APT no longer reports an error for the missing 32-bit package. This also corrects a regex used for detecting the current configuration. Requesting merge of revision 20447ead8ba4b9bf3310da0d80a23a199aba1d60 into M52. This has been verified on a Canary build of Chrome Remote Desktop, and doesn't affect Chrome at all.

When we we expect the error to stop happening for home users. After the next update is pushed?
,
May 26 2016
Once we release the M52 Debian chrome-remote-desktop package, and users update their system, they should stop seeing the error.

Despite this being marked as fixed in May, I still see this error in July. Has this fix made it to the current stable channel release yet?
,
Jul 11 2016
The fix was broken - see bug 625014 . I've fixed it and merged it onto both M52 and M53. I can't give an exact timeline, but we should have M52 run through QA and publicly released soon.

Using Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit machine; update daily Still persists for me. All packages are up to date. N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386' Star icon not found do not post "+1 Me too!". Instead, click the star icon.

I think that's the repository for Google Earth? Google has stopped supporting 32-bit versions of some packages. But you probably have an old entry for the 32-bit package in your /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ directory. Review your APT sources and delete or disable the broken entry for i386. Or you could try uninstalling (purge) and reinstalling the Google Earth package, which should fix the broken APT configuration. |
